Regrowing the Commons
This project explores the possibility of landscape preservation through programmatic expansion.
The built environment continues to grow. It expands continuously, encroaching on relics of landscape which lose their intrinsic value and are slated as places for development. Land has become commodified into a surface on which to build.
By implementing the idea of the commons, the land in Xochimilco, Mexico City can be reincorporated into the lives of a larger population, therefore turning it into a resource in and of itself. Small modifications to the typical land use can change the way humans interact with the earth, bringing about a new value to the site.
