While in Rome, the Tiburtina area transportation hub was studied through the viewpoint of a refugee. A proposal was created to revolutionize one of the few green spaces of Rome, an abandoned, sunken fish hatchery, into a public garden space which is embraced by an urban complex. Within this complex is housed commercial space, short-term housing for refugees, long-term housing for volunteers, and community garden spaces. Every level of the complex has open areas to foster the interaction between different demographic groups, and the complex serves as a monumental welcome to people seeking refuge.
